I’m sitting here listening to a recording of last weekend’s Friday/Saturday show from BBC Radio 2. In the first hour, Mark Lamarr played Arthur Alexander’s version of “A Shot of Rhythm and Blues”—which is, I guess, the original—and I couldn’t help hearing the Beatles vocals in my head. I am continually amazed at how strong Lennon’s voice was on those 50s covers from the early days of the band.
“A Shot of Rhythm and Blues” was never released on a normal Beatles album, but you can hear it on Live at the BBC .
