I was right, but not certain

Via Gruber, I see that my first instinct about the opaque Leopard menubar on my iBook G4 was right

Is it possible that the video hardware on this three-year-old machine isn’t up to the translucency effect, and that Leopard has detected this and gone with an opaque menubar? Or have the updates to Leopard fixed the translucency problem? I’ve Googling around for a bit but found nothing.

Apple confirms that the menubar is opaque for older and lower-end video hardware in this KnowledgeBase article. I don’t know why my Googling didn’t turn up this page, as it was written a few days before my post. Maybe the words I was searching on weren’t in the article until it was updated this week.
