Museum

I got a call yesterday afternoon to go to one of the northern suburbs to inspect a piece of machinery that broke that morning. On the drive home, with grimy hands from the equipment and a desperate need to pee from the schooner of tea I’d drunk on the way up, I pulled into a McDonald’s in Des Plaines to use the bathroom and get a burger for the road. When I got out of the car, this was across the street:

McDonald's museum

It’s the McDonald’s Museum, a replica of the first Ray Kroc franchise, built on the site of Store #1 at 400 Lee Street.

The red reflections on the wet street and the blinked-out R on the sign made it look especially lonely. Surprisingly for me, the photo came out of the camera looking just like I saw the scene—no tweaking or cropping needed.
